Upcoming & Potential Projects
The Lockport Township Park District is committed to enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Lockport and the surrounding communities. As part of its strategic plan, the park district has identified several potential projects that would improve its facilities and services. Some of these projects are:
-
- Challenge Fitness expansion: This project would add more space and equipment to the fitness center, as well as a new multipurpose room and a lobby area. The expansion would allow the park district to offer more programs and classes, as well as accommodate more members and guests.
- Renovation of Crest Hill Memorial Park – OSLAD (Open Space Lands Acquisition Development) Grant: The Lockport Township Park District received a $600,000 OSLAD Grant in January 2024, one of only four park districts in Will County to do so. The grant will fund the renovation of Crest Hill Memorial Park, which will include new and improved features for the community. Some of the planned enhancements are: updated playground and picnic areas, a fitness zone, a volleyball court, a walking path with benches, bioswales with educational signs, and more parking spaces. The park will also have a special area for teens and gamers, with a zipline, a rope climber, a group swing, game tables, Four Square, Gaga Ball Pit, and other fun activities.
- Renovation of Red Oaks Park: This project would upgrade the park with an ADA accessible path that leads to new playground equipment and will be redeveloped to improve amenities while adding new elements to enhance people’s recreation experience. The new playground will feature modern and inclusive equipment for children of all ages and abilities. The existing shelter will be replaced with a new one that is also ADA accessible and has a larger capacity.
- HVAC improvements for Challenge Fitness and Fairmont Community Center: These projects would replace the aging (HVAC) systems at both facilities with more energy-efficient and reliable units. The new HVAC systems would improve the comfort and air quality for the staff and patrons, as well as reduce maintenance and utility costs.
- New lighting for the PAC: This project would install new LED lighting fixtures in the Performing Arts Center (PAC), which hosts various cultural and entertainment events throughout the year. The new lighting would improve the visibility and ambiance of the stage, as well as save energy and money.
- Resurface two outdoor tennis courts in Dellwood Park: This project would resurface the two existing tennis courts in Dellwood Park, which are in poor condition due to cracks and weeds. The resurfacing would restore the quality and appearance of the courts, as well as extend their lifespan.
In all, the Lockport Township Park District will undergo several upgrades to improve the quality of its facilities and services. The goal is to create a more attractive and enjoyable space for visitors, residents, and event organizers. The park district will offer more options for physical and social activities, as well as cultural and educational events. In this way, the Lockport Township Park District will become a hub for community engagement and wellness now and in the future.
Overall Park Improvements
We will be auditing all of our parks to determine what improvements can be instituted to enhance the aesthetics of each park site. This program will be phased in over a number of years and will include such things as landscaping, garbage receptacles and overall maintenance.
